Bay Bridge is Shut-Down

Tuesday afternoon, during commute hours, a cable on the Bay Bridge snapped and damaged 3 vehicles. They had to close down the bridge, and it is still closed down. Over Labor Day weekend, the bridge was closed down for construction. They put in a temporary S-curve while they repair part of the eastern span for upgrades for earthquake resistance. The damage that just occurred Tuesday was on this new repair.

It is scary to think about a bridge not being engineered or constructed correctly. Approximately 270,000 vehicles cross this bridge everyday. As you can imagine, this has caused quite a fuss around here and a huge traffic disturbance. This has been all over the news and radio. All I can say is, I'm sure glad I don't have to commute into the city for work! They say the bridge might open back up this afternoon, but I don't think I'll be driving accross it anytime soon.

Pumpkin Party

This is my favorite time of year: the start of the holiday season all leading up to Christmas! I love getting into the spirit of the holidays, so I decided to host a little pumpkin carving party with a few friends. I even baked banana bread and cookies, and one of the other girls decided to bake apple pie. It was a fun day, and I really enjoy this time spent with good friends. I am very blessed to know all of these very sweet girls. Here are some pictures of my fun Sunday afternoon:
Marley's first encounter with a pumpkin. She's very curious and so fitting for this holiday. :)

Rachel and Sonia decided to carve theirs out on the balcany cuz it can be a messy job. They are both fellow volleyball players.

Marisol and Katie picking out their patterns. Marisol, as most of you know, is my roommate and co-worker. Katie is a fellow PG&E-er as well. I met her through Sonia, who works with her in the San Fransisco office. She's such a sweetheart, I liked her right away.

During the process, we ended up breaking all four of the carving knives that came in the kits from Target. Fortunately, there were no injuries incurred by the sharper knives!

My little creation! I can't take all the credit, I followed a pattern this year.
